'Alere' is a Latin verb that means to feed, raise, nurture or make grow.
Cufflinks are metal pieces used for fastening together the sides of a shirt cuff. Mainly a piece for men use, they started to be crafted in precious metals and during the 17th century they became a proper jewel part of men’s fashion and a symbol of social status.
SANTAVANITAS design puts the female breasts, during their lactation period, in a piece traditionally made almost exclusively for men. The ALERE cufflinks pretend to be a symbol of nursing and growing, where the thin lines that separate us disappear in order to put an end to the established roles and to represent caregiving as an essential value for a healthy society.
It’s necessary to normalise the image of female breast in popular culture.
