  • Sitting on a 18Kt gold chain with 50cm or 60 cm length
  • Each pendant measurements: Width: 12mm | Height: 15mm  
  • This piece is made of 18Kt solid gold, the portraits of Emperor Adrian and the Greek Antinous are made of 925 sterling silver.

Handcrafted in Cordoba, South of Spain.

    The shape of this pendant is based on the Catholic scapular, two pieces of cloth joined by bands that rest over chest and back. SCAPULAE (shoulders) is a homage to the love story of the Emperor Adrian and the Greek Antinous.

    A Roman man was free to choose sexual partners of either sex (the word ‘homosexuality’ does not exist in Latin) and as long as he remained active in each sexual encounter, his masculinity would not be doubted.
    Adrian’s sin was that he fell in love.
    Much was discussed in Rome about the sorrow that engulfed the Emperor when Antinous drowned in the Nile in mysterious circumstances, a pain so deep that it clouded his wise government. Adrian founded a new city called Antinopolis at the spot of the river bank where his lover had died, and started a campaign to turn the image of Antinous into the subject of a new religion. Still today countless sculptures display Antinous’ beauty, which was celebrated for centuries in literature and the arts.

    DELIVERY AND RETURNS

    Your SANTAVANITAS Jewellery will be dispatched within 1-2 working days. We ship all orders through registered, recorded delivery, and we are happy to help with any urgent delivery requests.

    For pieces that are Made to Order (18kt solid gold and special sizes), please allow us 14-21 working days before shipping.

    Whilst we do not accept returns, we are happy to exchange any item within 7 days of delivery. Please do contact us if you would like any information about a particular jewellery piece or further images.

    ATTENTION: Due to safety and hygienic reasons, we are unable to accept exchanges on any earrings.

    You will receive a confirmation email within the 24 hours of placing your order. If you do not receive it, contact us as soon as possible. 
    Orders placed after 1:30pm CET will be shipped the following business day. 
    Orders placed on Friday after 1:30pm CET, Saturday or Sunday will be shipped on Monday.
    Note: Many shipping companies do not deliver on weekends or holidays.

    SANTAVANITAS S.L. is not responsible for any delays or issues once the order has left our warehouse. Once the order is in transit, we will gladly work with the shipping company to assist with any issues.

    Note: During promotional periods and holidays, please expect longer than normal delivery times as we do not ship orders on weekends and holidays (Spain  Bank Holiday). During this time, there may be delays, where SANTAVANITAS S.L. is not responsible.

    Our packaging - unique handcrafted table napkins

    Rooted in purpose beyond aesthetics, our pieces are presented in handmade handkerchiefs, inspired by the old tradition of the trousseau and women creating their own table or bed cloth as newlyweds.

    These handkerchiefs are meticulously crafted by Carmen at her studio in Jeréz- a small Andalusian atelier, owned by two sisters - a young female business we’re proud to support.

    We honor the craftsmanship of Spanish women and sustainability. Their attention to detail makes each handkerchief unique, as they follow generations of traditional intricate lace designs.

    In the old days, women saved their most valuable and beloved jewelry pieces inside these trousseau handkerchiefs or table napkin. Our interpretation of it attempts to offer an intimate space to treasure your pieces, but also dress your table. Sharing food is one of the warmest love languages in every culture, after all.
